My latest novel, "The Menagerie" is still sitting in my computer while waiting for responses from literary agents I have submitted to. Not surprising, I did get one nice rejection that my story was not a good fit for them at this time, but to continue submissions to other agents. Nice they responded quickly and in a semi-positive way. Others are still out so not ready to throw in the towel on getting this book traditionally published just yet.
In the meantime, I have gone back through the book and made a few changes here and there and will probably continue to tweak it some from time to time until either I get an agent and publisher, or decide to publish the book myself. Something that those of you who have followed me for a while know I don't have a problem with. Actually, I have found that doing self publishing has been a great education for me to learn the process of formatting, creating, and publishing a book. Not to mention learning the various ways of marketing a book. This blog being one way of doing so! Still, for this book, I would like to have the experience of publishing it in the traditional manner. My ego isn't so great though, that I need to do it that way only!
If it does come down to my publishing the book myself, I will be doing it differently this time, by creating an independent publishing company and purchasing my own ISBN numbers. Recently, I have been receiving a lot of requests from other authors to help them format their books for them, so they can try self publishing. I figure I may as well take it one step more and offer to publish their book for them. This is something I have noticed a few authors doing, so why not join the club?
