Roger McKasson's eighth novel is being scheduled for release in mid-August 2018, once the current proof is finalized and the book is ready for publication.
The story revolves around a group of friends in 1982 Hollister, California, all of whom, are successful yuppie professionals, who have been invited to an exclusive upscale Halloween Party by a local multi-millionaire software company owner. An invitation to one of Ric's parties is always a sought-after invitation because of being a major social event! Especially his annual Halloween Party!
This year, though, the party has taken on an air of mystery., even for a Halloween Party! A rumor has started that Ric, plans for the party to be "more risqué" than his past Halloween Parties. And, as rumors go, it begins to grow and change!
This is 1982! Those invited to the party all grew up in the Sixties Free-Love Hippy Time Period and all evolved to become members of the highly successful Yuppie Movement. They are all wealthy professionals and have acquired the better things in life. Fancy cars, homes in exclusive areas, and social gatherings, where the wine and liquor flow freely, marijuana use is open, and skinny dipping in the pools and inground spas are all part of the social norm of the times and social settings they all enjoyed. Throwing in a rumor that the party is going to be "more risqué" this year, starts a series of discussions and conflicts between married couples within their established personal and social relationships!
The story mainly is connected to one couple, Ryan and Jennifer Taylor. Ryan, a university Anthropology Professor and Jennifer, who is a successful psychologist in partnership with Steven Richards. Steven's wife Helen, is also a university professor of Old English Literature at the same university as Ryan.
This is not a story about sex! However, it does play a role in the story! The story instead, is about how the ever evolving "more risqué rumor" and the social discussions and challenges it has created, affect the various invited individuals and couples because of the curve that has been thrown to their commonly accepted social norms and sexual values of the time!
